Trees Art Show

This Hearts and Trees online art show focuses on trees. I encourage you to share this art show with your children and to have a discussion about the different ways these artists saw and painted trees.

If you would be interested in a set of notebooking pages/mini unit study like the ones I am offering for my clouds and still life art shows let me know (you can find links to my other art shows as well as to my notebooking pages in the sidebar). If there is enough interest I will put them together.

Meanwhile, here are some suggestions of questions you can discuss with your children as you examine each painting.
•How did each painter see trees differently?
•Look for cool and warm colors.
•How many paintings have people in them?
•How many paintings have animals?
•How many paintings have buildings?
•Decide on the "mood" of each painting- how does each painting make you feel?
•Use the canvas measurements provided to see just how big or small a painting is.
•Decide which painting is the most realistic and which is the least realistic.
•Which is your favorite painting?
•If you could change the name of a painting, what would you name it? Why?
•If you find a painting you like, take a minute to look at some other paintings by that artist. (Artchive and ABC Gallery are where I found these paintings.
•You could make your own version of your favorite garden painting.
•You could sketch your own garden in the style of your favorite artist.

Still Life Art Show

This week's art show focuses on still life paintings.

As you and your children look at each painting, I encourage you to focus on how each artist painted the still life. How did each painter see fruit and flowers and books differently?

A short biography is included for each artist and some pages include easy art activities you might wish to spend some time completing after viewing the artwork. Still Life Art Show Mini Unit Study Notebooking Pages PDF

I am now offering a PDF set of notebooking pages designed to be used with my Still Life Art Show.

This is a set of 14 notebooking pages designed to help you and your students really get into the pieces of art.

• Each page includes questions to help you and your students take a deeper look and gain a deeper understanding of the artist, subject and style. (You can consider these questions orally or have your children write their responses in the space provided.)
• A short biography is included for each artist.
• Some pages include easy art activities you might wish to spend some time completing after viewing the artwork.
• Two coloring sheets are provided to accompany two works included in the art show.
• Most of the notebooking pages include the piece of art being studied. (The Lichtenstein and Botero pieces are not in the public domain, and are thus not included, but there is still a page for both of their works included in the art show.)

Oceans Art Show

"Study of Pictures.––The art training of children should proceed on two lines. The six-year-old child should begin both to express himself and to appreciate, and his appreciation should be well in advance of his power to express what he sees or imagines.

Here is another art show for your viewing pleasure. This art show's theme is: the ocean. There are lots of different styles of paintings in this art show. I think you will have fun viewing them with your children. I am super busy putting together my spring kit, so I wasn't able to put together notebooking pages like I did for my clouds art show. You can check out this page, however for some ideas of questions to help you take a deeper look at the paintings.

• Tally how many paintings depict calm seas and which are stormy.
• Tally how many paintings have boats in them.
• Decide on the "mood" of each painting- how does each painting make you feel- cold, warm, restless, calm, etc?
• Use the canvas measurements provided to see just how big or small a painting is.
• Decide which painting is the most realistic and which is the least realistic.
• How would you feel if you were in a boat on each ocean?
• Which painting have I included that isn't really a painting of the ocean? (Hint: Look at the titles.)
• If you find a painting you like, take a minute to look at some other paintings by that artist. (Artchive is where I found these paintings.)
• You could make your own version of your favorite ocean painting.
• Vote for your favorite in my poll in my sidebar. (I made it so you can vote more than once, so please have your children vote for their favorite too! One vote per person please!)
